In the years before the war, Jaap had received a painting box as a gift and encouragement for his work, with on its lid the image of an unruly horse with rider. Jaap transformed this image in his own way and put it on the canvas as an apocalyptic horse with rider. |

Nelleke senses a kinship between this work and ‘The Parable of the Blind’ by Breughel the Elder. For Paula, it strikes her as three ways of undergoing the same fate. |
